Hunting

Northern Missouri has a national reputation for excellent hunting, especially deer and turkey. The world record deer was shot about 20 miles from Lake Thunderhead and it is common for lake members to get deer that score in the 160’s.

There are 30,000 acres of state forest hunting ground within a 30-minute drive of the lake. There are also farms available to lease hunting rights for a reasonable price if you prefer your own acreage to scout and hunt.

There are also other hunting seasons for pheasant, ducks, geese, quail, rabbits and squirrel. Recently there have been several bobcats spotted in the area.

If you would prefer to view wildlife but not hunt them, bald eagles, golden eagles, pelicans and numerous species of birds can be seen.
