Fishing

Fishing is the most popular activity at Lake Thunderhead. It has been professionally stocked with bass, crappie, walleye, bluegill and catfish. The depth of the lake is 45 feet near the dam with the coves 10 feet deep.

The lake has many natural springs, a dense shad population and established coon tail habitat that make for excellent fishing.

Bass and walleye average 2.5 pounds with some up to 10 pounds and over. Crappie average half a pound with some being caught up to four pounds. Catfish average three pounds with some being caught up to 15 pounds and over on rod and reel or lines and jugs between sunset and sunrise.

TV personalities Jimmy Houston, Al Linder and Dick Kirby have filmed several shows at Lake Thunderhead and agree that Thunderhead is one of the best all-around fishing lakes in the Midwest. Property owners can test their skills at several fishing tounaments held annually.
